IMMORTAL
Someone told me last week that the only true way to be immortalised as an artist is by writing. I find this idea interesting. And if I’m being honest, I don’t really have much interest in being immortalised - yet here I am, taking up my time to write this…. clearly I care to some extent. I do have a personal diary that I hope no one will read…. but secretly, I hope in 200 years time, they will. BUT lets face it i don’t think pen and paper will be a thing then… so here i am writing digitally, luckily for you as that means there wont be as many spelling mistakes.
I don’t really have a plan here, so I'm just letting you know. I will write what I think and feel within the context of my lived experience as an Artist. I have many different layers (as we all do), and i take my art practice exceptionally seriously. I see myself as a brand with different pillars I have to work towards to build up my career, which is great. I love it; I’m super organised and have ADHD (pending official diagnosis), but being so regimented also takes its toll; having to curate every single Instagram post and a copy is exhausting…. SO be prepared for a very unstructured, free, flowing thought document. I reckon it will be fun to write and hopefully fun for you to read….
ANYWAY
immortality… weird concept, right? I guess Jesus was immortalised alongside all the other religious deities, but only through the mortal storytellers. So, I guess my friend is right: the only way to truly be immortal is through writing, the universal documentary of the human race. I'm sure soon, with all the DNA and metaverse advancements, there will be a way to be immortal in reality, but we’re not there yet.
That being said, i do have a friend who has reincarnated Nefritti and you can go and meet her in the metaverse. She is compiled from all the data about her on the internet, so, of course, it’s not a true reincarnation because all the information on the internet is curated to some extent. What we really need is Nefrittis's diary, who she loves, who she hates, and what she ate for breakfast…. damn imagine her Instagram profile…. now that would be interesting… I wonder what her “brunch with the girl’s post would look like.
of all the curated random professional things we do and post out on the internet and write in history books we are all just messy sometimes toxic big lumps of love… that’s what i think anyway. Big lumps of love are running around, hyper-focused on our passions and interests. We are built to adventure and explore the pleasures and passions of life. yeh, sadly, sometimes life sucks, and we have to push through tough times.
